We Changed the Clocks Back

Daylight Savings Time

We changed our clocks back on Saturday night. We have done this here on the Westcoast of Canada since I have been alive (let us just say a long time). We fall back and spring forward.

We love when the spring clocks go forward as the daylight hours become longer. This was originally done in 1918 as a measure for increasing production during the First World War.

I love this time as well because I prefer the cooler weather over the heat. It also signals that we can slow down a little. Take it easy. Do more home cooking and think about Christmas projects.

There has been a movement to eliminate Standard time and only have Daylight savings time. The two closest states to us, Washington and Oregon are also in agreement but need to make the changes through their federal government.

There are lots of reasons to make these changes. As a health care worker, I would see the increase in car crashes and industrial accidents around the time of the changes, especially in the spring when you would lose an hour of sleep.

I used to work in the emergency department and too bad for you if you got that night of the fallback…
