What Wild and Crazy Thing Have You Done?
Again and again
This time of year is fun. I like the coolness, the wind, and even the rain.
I live at the edge of a large city just outside Vancouver by the US border. We have the ocean very close to us. I can run to two different beaches from my home. Having the wind up at the ocean is beautiful.
The best part is the beaches tend to have fewer people now. Mostly you will find a few dogs, their walkers, and other runners.
The most delightful site is the kite surfers. It must be freezing for them out on the water. Please don’t tell me that because they are wearing bodysuits, that’s going to keep them warm. You have to get that cold water inside the suit first to warm it. Yikes!
Polar Bear Swim
I am not immune to winter water high jinx. Back in 1980 both my husband and I entered the Vancouver Polar Bear plunge in the Pacific Ocean on New Years Day. I know it is not the North Pole but damn it was cold.
I thought, okay I’ve participated in it once and now I’m done. Fast forward 29 years later and it is our second year at YellowPoint Lodge. It was a beautiful end of February. We arrived and we met up with the new friends we had made the previous year.
