Thanksgiving is Really a Time to Give Thanks.

Maybe we need to do this more often.

Thanksgiving.

I know we usually think of thanksgiving as the big turkey and all the trimmings, of family and friends getting together, and usually a football game on TV.

It occurred to me that we need to have thanksgiving every month. Not the commercial style that comes once a year but a quieter one every month.

When I was growing up we had Thanksgiving the first Sunday/Monday in October. That is the traditional time in Canada. In the US it is the fourth Thursday in November.

The good part is getting together with family. I began to think about how we could celebrate once a month with good food, good times, and family. I remember how we always celebrated Sundays in my home.

Meals were pretty basic but we always had the same dinner on certain days. On Sunday we always had a traditional meal. Our day was pretty routine as well.

Breakfast

Sunday breakfast was always fried eggs, toast, occasionally bacon, and orange juice. The rest of the week was different. Monday to Friday if it was a school day we had porridge. My mother always said you couldn’t learn if you didn’t have healthy food that stuck to your stomach, so porridge it was…
