I don't dwell on death very often. One, because I am one of those healthy people in my 70s and second, because I have been fortunate not to be personally involved in the death of others over a prolonged period.

I feel that if prolonging death through nursing homes is basically due to greed, and I don't disagree, then the shortening of dying as we allow in Canada through MAID is also for greed and not necessarily as kindness.

The opportunity to abuse this is ripe, but if stopped, it would hurt those who genuinely need and agree to it.

This is a complex issue that needs brighter minds than mine, but if we don't discuss it, we won't come up with better options.
