Focus on the present and celebrate your freedom
I was reading one of my favorite bloggers, @John P Weiss, and he was talking about doing things for the fun of it. About having another purpose after our traditional job.
A lot of us were defined by our jobs. Lots of us enjoyed that and were proud of it. When that job is done, we feel irrelevant. Somehow we know we will no longer be on the email list or get the phone call for coffee quite so often.
It will take some time but we need to redefine ourselves. This time, if we are lucky, we get to choose what we want for our second career.
It may be volunteer work that you always wanted to be involved with but work and family responsibilities interfered with it.
It may be that you like the feeling of being present with people and this volunteer work helps with that.
Some people just want to be out there and follow their passions. One of my good friends has always been a runner and did lots of half and full marathons. His real job was as an undercover cop which he really liked and was good at. Now he works…
