I Am a Senior Now

Some Days I Really Feel Like it.

I have been a senior officially now for almost 5 years. Hard to believe. I was working until 66 years of age. I was retired happily, I might add, until I was called back to work due to Covid.

Work

I went back to work because with my generation when someone tells you, you are needed, you go. So off I went to work half time as a Contact Tracer. Originally it was to be for less than six months. I am currently scheduled until the end of November. That makes it almost exactly one year since I started.

It is not particularly hard work but when it’s been a few years since you last worked, your brain needs to remember how to learn new things. This can be quite taxing.

I feel like I am exercising my brain and that is always a good thing. The old ‘use it or lose it’ applies to a lot of things. The least of which is our brain.

Benefits

There are lots of great things about this work. Okay, so being honest there are maybe a few things that make it worthwhile. Like replacing the furnace, all the toilets, a bathroom floor, and a fireplace insert. With cash.

I have met some new friends and that is not always easy at our age. We tend to stick to our old friends because then we don’t need to reach…
