How Do I Count The Advantages Of Age?
Oh, there’s so many, let’s get started.
We need to think about the benefits of aging. You might be thinking, the benefits of aging? Isn’t that an oxymoron?
This last month I have been writing a blog post daily as a way to develop the daily writing habit. Initially, I thought, just get it done. You can do anything for 1 month.
While I was struggling to complete this during the last week, I realized this wasn’t just to do this every day for a month but to develop a habit of writing every day. Period.
The reason I started to blog was to write about being a senior. I wanted to write about my experiences, and offer ideas and confidence to others that are now seniors or will be seniors shortly.
While I have been writing, I realized that there is a lot of advantages to being a senior.
Here is the List
- Learn more about yourself. Your personality isn’t permanent. (Thanks to @Benjamin Hardy,)
- The alternative is death. This is high up on the list for a reason!
- Being with old friends.
- You can be who you are. You don’t need to impress anybody.
- You can read anytime you want, for as long as you want!
- You can take as long as you want, to do what you want, when you want.
- Volunteer for what or who you want.
- Take the classes you want.
- The freedom to have sexual relations as you wish.
- Spending time with family and friends.
The above list is a few of the benefits of being a senior. I also wanted to let people know of the rights they have and some of the things that would make their lives easier.
We need to know how to ask questions of our doctors and our pharmacists. How to find new friends and neighbors.
We need to know about the classes that are available to them in exercise, arts, or academia. Where to find university classes that can be audited.
Who to talk to regarding finances? When do you start to investigate the options you have.
What kinds of health-related things should you be incorporating into your life? More importantly, do you know how to have fun? Do you know how to laugh at yourself or with your friends?
Little Old Lady Card.
Do you know how to play the little old lady card? I’m sorry I can seem to find the sale item your flyer was advertising. Would you be able to get it for me? That card can be played over and over again as you need it.
You can learn about poison prevention for seniors. Learn about the advantages for you if you can follow a healthy diet and some exercises.
There is a whole world out there waiting for you. You just need to step forward and grab it.
Oh yeah, there is one more thing. You have to remember those three little words. ‘I don’t care.’
I don’t care if people think I’m slow.
I don’t care if I take longer than the next guy in line.
I don’t care if you don’t like my clothing or color choice.
I don’t care if you’re a busy doctor. I took the time to be in your office and you work for me. So sit your ass down and answer the questions I have.
Those three little words can be so freeing. Let’s say them together and support one another on this great journey we all are on.
