Last Saturday my husband and I went to the VanDusen botanical gardens in the heart of Vancouver BC. It has approximately 55 acres filled with gardens and is so beautiful. It was first opened on August 30th, 1975.

In the garden, they have a couple of small lakes and ponds, a stone garden, a hedge maze, and a Japanese, Korean, and Chinese garden area.

They have markers around each type of plant, shrub, or tree. They give the proper name and then the common name and usually where they are from.

They have numerous special events. The Great A-Maz-ing Egg hunt at Easter, Cherry Blossom Season, and The British Car Show on our Victoria Day weekend (May 24th) as examples. On the last Sunday of April each year this garden holds its annual plant sale. It’s a huge event.

This year they had a Cello Concert. Low Strung, a group of 11 classically trained cellists from Yale University provided a concert on the Great Lawn. This was not like a traditional cello concert. They performed rock and pop songs by artists ranging from Beyonce and Lady Gaga to Queen and the Beatles.

Everyone was invited to come early to wander the gardens and then head to the great lawn…
