Decluttering Can Take More Than a Little While.

But that’s okay, now I’m retired I’ve got the time.

In the last few years since retirement, I have been trying to declutter my house. Believe me, it is a lot easier when you don’t have three little boys and all their trucks, cars, and Lego pieces just where they want them.

The problem is that I need to face the fact that the junk, I mean momentos, that have accumulated in my home are mostly mine. I used to say I was saving these things for my sons. When they got their own places I was going to give it all away to them. I was sure they would thank me later. Hah!

Everyone knows that you save the most stuff when you have your first child. Everything is a first. From pictures to school projects etc, etc! The next child gets a lot less saved and then the third, well he’s lucky he got named.

When my firstborn graduated from university, got his first apartment, and his first job I had three large containers filled with every project he had done from kindergarten to Grade 12. I told him he could go through these containers, pick what he wanted, and fill just one container. I would keep it for him until he got a house.

He looked at me and said “Mum. You know and I know that the only one that wants any of this stuff is you. I don’t want any of it. So you better choose…
