Being There For One Another Beats Being Alone
Having friends is accomplished by being a friend.
When you’re young, you feel you can take on the world independently. You had your friends; if you were lucky, you had a family to fall back on, but we thought we were unbeatable.
As we grew older and experienced what life had to offer, hard times had to be endured. While no one wants to go through those times, we can come through them more vital than ever, especially if we have friends.
Friends are the family that we choose.
When we start, we have friends that either are close and convenient or that our parents have chosen. As we get a little older, we begin to choose our own friends.
Sometimes these friends are simply school friends. Sometimes we stay with friends because it is who we know.
As we grow older, if we are lucky, we develop lifelong friends that remain true to our friendship. These friends may move away, and we may not have spoken with them for a while, but we connect when we pick up the phone or see them on vacation. It’s as if we haven’t been away from one another for any time.
There is the old saying that friends are the family we choose. It is accurate, and we must choose well. We don’t have a choice of which family…
