It is early as I type this. I seem to be learning as I go. Initially, I had taken a six-week course at the local university on how to complete your novel. Complete my novel! I had a conversation in my head that I thought would be great somewhere in a book. This class was once a week for two hours. The instructor asked for two volunteers to email their beginning chapter to the others for the following week. We would review them at the end of each class.
I thought I’d better hurry up. I wrote my chapter just before going to the university.
I thought it was fantastic, but I decided to not be the first person to email the others. I thought that I would just wait for the first two to go and then see how they did and what the reviews were like.
I have never been a shy person as an adult and normally would have gone first but this was brand new for me and in that class of ten people I was the only one that hadn’t written … anything before. Most of the people had written stories for years but never submitted them or published them.
So, as soon as I read the first two, I knew I was in trouble. They were great. I thought … I can’t submit mine, it isn’t nearly as good as these two. It’s not even in the same league.
